PEOPLE
MANAGEMENT ESSENTIALS
Our first requirement is to make sure you have all the
relevant policies and procedures in place to manage your
staff in line with current legislation and best practice
whilst also providing you with a level of defence in
the event of any potential employment claim.
Depending upon the results of your People Management
Assessment, we would provide the following People Management
Essentials for your business:
• Employment Contracts
It is a legal requirement that all staff are provided
with a written employment contract with the Company
within 8 weeks of their start date. This should be
a practical and user friendly document issued to all
staff outlining what you the employer expect of the
employee and what they can expect from you in return
including working hours, overtime, pay, disciplinary
procedures, notice period, holidays etc.
• Employee Handbook
This supports the employment contract, induction process
and general employee communications by providing an
A to Z of working practices, including absence management,
training and development and relevant employment policies
such as equal opportunities, discipline and grievance,
maternity and IT/email security. By providing this
reference document you are taking steps to avoid any
confusion amongst staff which can lead to poor performance,
conduct issues and tribunal claims.
• People Records
The recording of personal data and sensitive personal
data must comply with legislation, will ensure the
smooth running of all employment matters and aid your
internal communications. Such records will also provide
the necessary audit trail for the Company in the event
of any employment claims related to working practices
(i.e. self certification of absence, application forms,
opt out agreements). This information can then be easily
transferred to an electronic system if you wish.
• Managers Briefing
The purpose and importance of the above documents
is covered during a 2 hour briefing session for your
supervisors and managers ensuring they understand their
part in delivering successful people management processes.
